Church Road, Virginia

Bring a lawn chair or blanket and join the fun!

There's no charge for this movie. We're inviting y'all to join our family for a viewing of one of our favorite historical films.

Concessions will be available for purchase.

Based on the best-selling historical novel by Jeff Shaara, "Gods and Generals" covers the events of the War Between the States before the climactic battle of Gettysburg. Seen from the points of view of leaders such as Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, Winfield Scott Hancock and Robert E. Lee, the film begins just after the attack on Fort Sumter in April 1861, and culminates with the battle of Chancellorsville in May of 1863. Most of the script is taken from diaries, speeches and newspaper accounts of the day.

Solar Eclipse
1:18 PM - 4:04 PM
(2:44 PM Maximum Eclipse)

Don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime experience!

The last total eclipse in the United States was on July 11, 1991, but only for Hawaii.

Feb. 26, 1979, brought the most recent total eclipse visible for the Lower 48, yet the last to go across America from ocean-to-ocean was on June 8, 1918.

The last time Virginia was touched by a total eclipse was on March 7, 1970. It cast Hampton Roads into total darkness but was a partial eclipse for Richmond.

You’ll have to wait until May 11, 2078, for the next totality experience somewhere in Virginia, but again, only if you’re in Franklin, Suffolk, Chesapeake or Virginia Beach.

Today’s newborn babies will be 82 years old the next time the moon totally blocks the sun over Richmond on Sept. 14, 2099.

If you wish to view the eclipse without creating your own viewer, you may bring your own solar goggles/glasses.
